Katie’s History
Katie, who lives in Greenlawn, is the only child of her nurse mother and lawyer father. With red hair and green eyes, she’s energetic, fun-loving, and dreams of being an actress. She’s best friends with Aubrey White and Haleigh Abbott, and the three of them are known as The Three Sisters.
Katie’s parents struggle with their marriage and compensate by dedicating more and more time to their professional careers. Because they’re hardly ever home, Katie becomes a latchkey kid.
In middle school, Katie joins the drama club and is given the lead in several plays. And she meets Nathan West. Katie’s involvement with drama and Nathan pull her away from Aubrey and Haleigh. That’s not a problem for Aubrey, who’s interested in sports. But Haleigh has no acting or sports talents and so becomes resentful and angry when Katie and Aubrey don’t have time for her.
During her sophomore year, Katie gives in to Nathan’s pressure for intimacy, and she learns she’s pregnant. As a Christian, Katie knows that she sinned when she gave in to Nathan’s urging, but abortion isn’t an option.
At the same time, Aubrey is severely injured in an auto accident, and Haleigh moves away from Greenlawn with her family, leaving the best friends’ relationship broken.
With Katie’s parents talking divorce and lacking support from Nathan, Katie chooses to give her baby up for adoption. She then finishes high school and becomes a registered nurse.
Katie’s Present
Her Heart’s Desire is Katie’s story. Longing to reconnect with her friends, she finds fulfillment in her career as a nurse and as director of her church’s drama ministry. She desires a family of her own, but she’s hesitant to date again until Jackson Stone enters her life.
In her heart, registered nurse Katie Mann carries the painful memories of her teen pregnancy and the baby boy she gave up for adoption. Only the people closest to her remember that time in Katie’s life.
She can’t convince the baby’s biological father, the charming and fickle Nathan West, she isn’t interested in giving him a second chance for a relationship.
When she meets Jackson Stone, a former college classmate at the senior citizen residence where she works as a nurse, sparks ignite. Jackson, the grandson of Katie’s favorite resident at the Senior Home, thinks she’s hiding something, but that doesn’t stop him from pursuing a relationship with her. Katie can’t deny her growing love for Jackson, but she’s afraid to tell him the truth about her past.
