The Book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible is considered a book of wisdom, and it reminds us that life without God is empty or “vanity.” God controls the times and seasons in nature and in human life. Our Creator wants to give us a full and meaningful life, an abundant life, through Jesus Christ. (John10:10b)
“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV
Although it’s sometimes debatable with the recent unusual weather patterns, the Temperate Zone where I live experiences four seasons each year. You may have a favorite season. Mine is spring.

Spring is a time of new beginnings, when the weather warms, new plant life springs up, and many kinds of baby animals are born. Summer is when we can enjoy the outdoors and the beauty and abundance of God’s gifts to us. Nature’s growing season ends in Autumn, and even though we look forward to viewing the Creator’s amazing color palette and His artistic designs, we also know that winter snow and cold will soon follow. But even winter has its own purpose and beauty.

Autumn is upon us. The end of the year is now closer than the beginning, a time of reflection, of completing goals set at the beginning of the year (or revising them) and looking forward to the holiday season and the new year.

Have you ever thought that our lives are divided into seasons that correspond to nature’s seasons? My childhood (spring) was a happy one, when I grew and learned and matured. Young adulthood (summer) took me through college and the early years of marriage and parenthood, always learning but also teaching, and my husband and I became involved in vocational Christian ministry. During middle age (autumn), my children pursued their own dreams, attended college, got married, and made me a grandmother. I also pursued one of my own dreams by becoming an author. Life continues. Having crossed into senior citizen-hood, winter approaches.
I haven’t reached the end of my “year” yet. God has graciously provided me with good health, and there’s still plenty to do: writing another book, baking more cookies, spending time with family and friends, serving the Lord. There may even be something new for me to learn.
In any season, a life that’s lived to serve, honor, and worship God has purpose. Psalm 19:14 is one of my favorite Bible verses.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart/ Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” NKJV

Another is Colossians 3:17.
“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” NKJV
