THANKSGIVING SCRIPTURE CHOIR

Have you ever participated in a Scripture choir? Using the Psalms and other praise and thanksgiving passages from Scripture can enhance our Thanksgiving worship services. Choral reading blends voices, using changes in inflection, volume, and pitch, speaking the words rather than singing them. One or two rehearsals allow the speakers to become familiar with the Scripture passages and learn to read together. Choir or congregational songs may be added between the passages of Scripture.

Psalm 92:1-5
ALL: It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
WOMEN: To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
MEN: And Your faithfulness every night.
SOLO 1: On an instrument of the strings,
SOLO 2: On the lute,
SOLO 3: And on the harp,
SOLOs 1,2,3: With harmonious sound.
MEN: For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work:
WOMEN: I will triumph in the works of Your hands.
Psalm 95:1-7a
ALL: Oh, come let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
WOMEN: For the Lord is the great God,
MEN: And the great King above all gods.
SOLO 1 In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
SOLO 2 The heights of the hills are His also.
SOLO 3: The sea is His, for He made it;
SOLO 4: And His hands formed the dry land.
ALL: Oh, come let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand.
Psalm 89: 5-8
SOLO 1: And the heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord;
SOLO 2: Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints.
SOLO 3: For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord?
SOLO 4: Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord?
MEN: God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
WOMEN: and to be held in reverence by all those around Him.
ALL: O Lord God of hosts,
Who is mighty like You, O Lord?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
Psalm 96:2-12
ALL: Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
MEN: Declare His glory among the nations,
WOMEN: His wonders among all peoples.
ALL: For the Lord is great
and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.
WOMEN: For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
MEN: But the Lord made the heavens.
WOMEN: Honor and majesty are before Him;
MEN: Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
SOLO 1: Give to the Lord,
O families of the peoples,
SOLO 2: Give to the Lord glory and strength.
SOLO 3: Give to the Lord the glory due His name;
SOLO 4: Bring an offering,
and come into His courts.
ALL: Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
WOMEN: Say among the nations,
The Lord reigns;
MEN: The world is also firmly established,
It shall not be moved;
ALL: He shall judge the peoples righteously.
SOLO 1: Let the heavens rejoice,
SOLO 2: and let the earth be glad.
SOLO 3: Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
SOLO 4: Let the field be joyful, and that is in it.
ALL: Then all the trees of the woods
will rejoice before the Lord.
