“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24 NKJV
From the evidence I’ve seen, June is definitely wedding month. So many couples getting married. So many celebrating anniversaries. Whether one year or seventy years, each wedding anniversary is a milestone. Marriage vows should not be taken lightly.
As an author of contemporary Christian romance, I like happy endings, as do most readers of romance. Happily ever after is implied when the couples in my books fall in love/ get married.
But in real life, the happy end may arrive quickly, or the after may be filled with sadness and pain. Such is life.
I met my husband during the summer between my junior and senior years in college. Six weeks after we met, he asked me to marry him. I graduated at the end of May, and we chose July for our wedding, one year after we met. We’ll be celebrating our fiftieth anniversary this year.
Commitment to God, to each other, and to our vows have kept us together. I try to recall what it was like at the beginning, the excitement of being with him, of holding his hand, of kissing. The memories help me write my books.
But the love we share now has weathered the storms of disagreements (we’re two different people, after all), parenting, illness, and financial strain. And it’s still wonderful, yet in a different way.
