Beth E. Westcott - Author

My mother told me that she wanted to go to college and study biology. However, at the time she graduated from high school, most women did not attend college. They got married and raised a family, which she did. (She was married to my dad for 47 years, until his death, and was mom to seven of us.)

No, she didn’t get a college degree, but she certainly earned her MOM degree. She studied childbirth and child development, nutrition, nursing, psychology, and physiology. Along with that, she developed skills in horticulture and food processing. She learned animal care, which included pets and farm animals.

Mom sewed and played piano. She loved to crochet and made many gifts using that skill. She enjoyed reading. My dad earned the money to support the family, but my mother kept the checkbook and paid the bills.

You will never see her biography on a library shelf or in history books. But she was Mom. She passed away in 2021 at the age of 107. Not all her dreams were fulfilled, but she left a legacy that will influence generations to come.

“She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:” Proverbs 31:27,28 NKJV
