When God makes a promise, He follows through because He’s faithful and trustworthy. (Lamentations 3:23;1 Corinthians 1:9)

As a child, I received Jesus Christ as my Savior, believing that He died and rose again to pay for my sins and give me eternal life.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Salvation and eternal life are gifts of God’s grace. On my own I can do nothing to deserve or earn these gifts.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9

However, God’s purpose is that I live in obedience to His will and commands in Scripture to glorify Him and show that I belong to Him. Good works follow salvation and are evidence of the Holy Spirit at work in me. I am “created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Ephesians 2:10), that others “may see [my] good works and glorify [my] Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

This doesn’t mean I’m perfect and do everything right just because I’m a Christian. He has made provision for the times I sin and fail to obey Him.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Only through Jesus Christ do I have salvation and eternal life, and I’m secure in my place in God’s family. Jesus said that His sheep will never be snatched out of His or His Father’s hand (John 10:28,29).

And it’s not just for me. It’s for you when you accept God’s gifts of grace through Jesus Christ.

In A Heart’s Journey, my soon-to-be-released contemporary romance, Haleigh Abbott needs reassurance of God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness.

A Heart’s Journey backstory: At first Haleigh blamed Aubrey and Katie for the break-up of their best friends’ relationship, especially when Haleigh didn’t fit into Aubrey or Katie’s new circles of friends. An auto accident that almost took Aubrey’s life, Katie’s unplanned pregnancy, Haleigh’s grandmother’s death, and the granting of a wish in an unexpected way resulted in Haleigh’s self-righteous anger with God and life. When her family moved away from Greenlawn, it was easier to shelve her relationships and memories than to deal with them, but the times comes when she must seek forgiveness and restoration before going forward with her life. So, she returns to Greenlawn.

Haleigh’s grandmother told her that God has a plan and purpose for her life, but Haleigh struggles to find it. Although a Christian, she has lived under the shadow of guilt for past mistakes and fear that it’s too late to make things right.

“…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
