Today my mom turns 104. For the past several years, we’ve gathered at her house to celebrate with pizza, which she loves to eat, and a large group of family members. Last year over 50 people crowded into her moderately-sized house.
This year Mom requested that we not have a big party. In September she fell and fractured her pelvis. She spent 7 weeks in the hospital and rehab. She’s home now, but she wasn’t prepared to face so many people at once. Instead we are spreading out our visits. I missed having the gathering of people I see only once or twice a year.
My mother is doing well, but she needs more help now. At 104, who wouldn’t?
I know there are so many of you who miss your moms, especially at certain times of the year, like Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to honor my mother on her birthday. I’m thankful I’ve had her for so many years. Helping to care for her is like paying off a debt for all the care she gave me from birth through my adult years. She doesn’t have a computer, so she won’t see this post.
Yesterday my novel Meadow Song was released. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. My wish for you is that you have a Thanksgiving filled with blessings and good memories.
