“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1
Do you sometimes look up at the heavens on a clear, starry night and wonder at the number of stars, the formations of the constellations, and the vastness of the Milky Way?
I am reminded of God’s creative genius when I consider the great variety in plant and animal life on earth. Everything God created has its place and purpose.
Genesis 1:27 tells us that God created men and women in His image. God is the Master Designer, and He has shared His gift of creativity with us. We create because He made us to create. Of course, He created from nothing (ex nihilo), and we have to start with basic materials in order to make anything.
In her devotional book, Reflections of the Creator in Us, Brenda Hendricks combines an artist’s viewpoint with Scripture and personal reflections to help us see God’s hand in making us, and His work in and through us each day. Brenda uses many references to painting because she is an artist. She is also a writer. However, whatever creative art is your passion, you will enjoy and benefit from reading Reflections of the Creator in Us.
She wrote, “Our craft–whatever form it may be–is merely an extension of ourselves, an outward expression of the life within us. Through art we unwrap and display our visions of what life could have been or never should have been, our disillusionments, our fondest hopes, or our greatest disappointments. These proclamations of our inner being encourage others to search the depths of their own souls, to acknowledge their own needs, and to find resolutions.” (Chapter Seventeen “Revelations”) What do you think?
